Happiness comes from within

We all want to be happy, right? For most of us it is an objective, a mission, a priority, some of us are constantly searching for something or someone outside of ourselves to fulfill us. Possibly we feel like there must be an external factor in our existences to make us happy, to make us whole. But what if none of that is not the solution, what if true happiness should come from within (our inner self).

According to an American television writer (Andy Rooney), nothing spectacular happens for most of life, if we as humans don’t derive joy in waking up in the morning and getting to work, finishing work, and sitting down with family and friends to get a meal, then the chances are that we are not going to be very happy. If an individual basis his or her happiness or unhappiness on major events like an awesome job, huge amount of money, a faultless happy marriage or a trip to Paris, that person is more likely not going to find happiness at all. If, on the other hand, happiness depends on a good breakfast, seeing the smile on your little one’s face, having a relaxing time with your partner, perhaps watching a good movie while cuddling in the couch, then we are more likely to live with quite a bit of happiness.

Happiness is a choice, not a result. No person, not even your partner will make you happy unless you make the decision to be happy. This is since your happiness will not come to you, it will only come from you. Again, being happy is and will always be a very personal thing, and trust me when I say that it really has nothing to do with anyone else.

I am happy when I buy a new pair of shoes, a new pair of suits, when I burst out laughing, when I finish an interesting book, when I wake up in the morning and feel relaxed and say to myself “today I choose joy”. I am happy to have friends and family that loves me, a home, food when I’m hungry, hot water when I shower. I love being able to live and see the season change, to have gifts at Christmas and birthdays, to travel sometimes, to have a good education, a good job and a great access to different culture. There are so many things around me that makes life so simple and easy and I will always think about them more than all the misfortunes that has happened to me. What if you say to yourself each day, I do not have time to be sad and moody every day; I have every reason in the world to be happy, to rejoice and for that reason, I choose joy! Then, you have managed to transform your life.

Happiness starts with you. not with your relationships, not with your job, not with your money, not with your situations, but with you. only you can make you happy, and the only way you can attain happiness, is by letting go and really surrender to the universe. A happy person is happy, not because everything is right or perfect in his or her life. He is happy because his behavior concerning everything in his life is right. According to a quote I once read, “life is too short to start your day with broken pieces of yesterday, it will certainly destroy your wonderful today and ruin your great tomorrow”. And we don’t want that right? To be offended or annoyed is an instant choice we make; it is not a situation inflicted or imposed upon us by someone or something else, it is our own choice. So why not start now. Start where you are right now, start with fear, start with pain, start with doubt, start now by taking life moment by moment, complaining less, and being grateful for the tiny little things you have now that means a lot to you.

Thank you for reading and happy new week..
